Want to cook Japanese or Asian dishes but don’t have a store nearby? Here are the shops and marketplace where you can get Asian ingredients online.

Although I’m far away from my home country Japan, I’m fortunate to live near 3 Japanese grocery stores 15 minutes away from our home in the San Francisco area. They carry fresh Japanese produces, dry Asian ingredients, thinly sliced meat, sashimi, and many other products that we can’t find in regular American grocery stores. In the same locale, I can also access to other Asian grocery stores that offer similar goods for Japanese and Asian cooking.
But I understand many folks across the country and outside of the US don’t have such luxuries. Unless you live in a large city, you may need to rely on online shops to get your necessities. So I’ve put together this resource page featuring online shops that offer a wide range of Japanese & Asian ingredients. Also included are trustable shops offering seafood, meat, and even Asian seed company where you can grow your own greens. Hope you find it useful!

Umami Cart went out of business recently. I’m so sad because that’s where I got all my fresh produce I can’t get locally. Do you know of another website that ships fresh Asian produce?
Hi Care, we have never tried Asian Veggies (NYC), but it might be a good option for you. Please check our list in the post! 🙂

Gloria

Good morning JOC, Vancouver Canada has a lovely Japanese grocery store called Fujiya.

Arigato,
Lori
Hi Lori! Thank you very much for your input!
Currently, this store only delivers premade food. Were you able to order groceries online?
Hello
Thank you for the list.
Could you please add this online shop from France to the list? https://www.nishikidori.com/en/
It has a very nice and big selection of Japanese goods and groceries. They ship worldwide, but this shop is especially interesting for us who live in Europe.
Thank you.
What a great recommendation! Thank you, Daniel. I’ve added Nishikidori to the list.
Hello Nami, thank you for sharing your recipes. I am a beginner in learning about Japanese cooking and I appreciate very much you sharing your recipes from the heart. I wonder if you could point out to me where best to buy dehydrated colorful seaweed mix online and/or in stores so that I can make healthy salad with seasoned vinegar/ sesame oil/ etc… I love eating cold seaweed salad in the summer. I live in the south Bay Area. Thank you!
Hi Monica! Thank you very much for reading Nami’s post and trying her recipe!
We often find dehydrated colorful seaweed mix in the local Asian markets. Try Nijiya, Mitsuwa, Marukai too.
We hope this helps!
Hello! Do you have a good online source for Unagi? I can buy it at our Asian market in Reno, but it has Corn Syrup and other ingredients I would rather not give to my daughter to eat! I would love a recommendation. And possibly a recipe for unagi bbq sauce. 😊
Hi Mary, Thank you very much for reading Nami’s Post.
Currently, We do not have a good online source for Unagi. Sorry… But we have a homemade Unagi sauce recipe.🙂
https://www.justonecookbook.com/unagi-sauce-2/
We hope this helps!
I’ve bought from https://americanunagi.com/ and it was quite good. You do need to grill it yourself which is a little tricky.
Definitely American Unagi from Maine – makes a really nice fresh unagi kabeyaki, and also their smoked eel is nice. And it’s sustainable! Only challenge is each frozen packet has several filets stuck to each other, so to use less I defrost for a bit and pry them apart to refreeze the rest.
They were actually just featured on PBS Nova in a really nice piece: https://www.pbs.org/video/sea-change-survival-in-the-gulf-of-maine-fqrwhr/
Wow… you always have best resources!!! I never knew those stores even existed lol
Hi JKH! We are glad to hear you enjoyed this post! Thank you very much for your kind feedback!
Hi Nami, could you please add yepss.co.uk to the list of British stores? They have a good choice of Asian groceries in general as well as fresh fruit and veg. Bought from them couple times and they are usually my go to shop when my local stores run out of stuff I need.
Sure, Aga. We’ve added yepss to the list. Thanks for letting us know.

Hi Alice, Thank you very much for your love and support! We hope you enjoy many dishes from our website!
Dear Nami,
I live in Boise, Idaho. I would like to eat natto on a regular basis but cannot find a source locally. Can you recommend a brand and a place where I can buy a high quality, organic product shipped to Boise? I have experienced delicous natto in Japan.
Thank you for your kindness,
Penni-anne Bricker
Hi Penni-anne, Have you checked Orient Market in Boise? Most stores import Natto from Japan and keep them in the freezer section. We had looked online to see if any store can deliver Natto to your area but unfortunately couldn’t find any maybe because it has to be ship refrigerated.😕 Nami personally likes smaller beans (me too 😉) and only buy organic but don’t have a specific brand to recommend. We hope Natto gets more popular in your area and able to purchase from many stores soon.
Some of these stores are non-Asian specific or South Asian and you will be hard pressed to find more than soy sauce or nori. I’d be really interesting to see Japanese-centric stores like Oto’s in Sacramento or Mitsuwa Marketplace in San Diego.
Hi Drew,
These stores are online stores.
If you are looking for local stores, please check this linked post (Japanese Grocery Stores around the World)! It’s including two stores that you mentioned too.😉
